* Translating the web site is done through regular po file. There is not many strings to translate, [https://github.com/bdoin/GCompris-site/blob/master/locale/messages.pot you can have a look at them here].

Now you got a login an password. You can [http://gcompris.net/ecrire log on now].

Go in the ''Site edition -> Author'' and change your password there as soon as possible.

You have only access to your locale and ''en'' section on the web site and thus cannot fix things everywhere. By clicking on edit in an English article you can copy it, this is especially useful with complex formatting.

There is a root directory for you named with your locale symbol like ''fr''.

You must create/update article in it like it is in the English section. When you start the translation of an article, the English version is display in the text area. It is very useful to see formatting code, especially for images and tables.

For example, the main mini screenshots images is just edited as: ''<img3|center>''

'''TAKE CARE:''' You must '''Write a new translation of each article''' and never overwrite the English one. Read carefully the instructions bellow.

= Getting support =

I am currently every night on IRC freenode.net channel #gcompris if you

need direct help (under the nick bdoin).

= Screenshots =

DO NOT Translate the screenshots section at all. The content is auto generated directly from GCompris internal data. Just translate the name and description of the screenshots sections.

= How to translate =

There is a field on each article named "ARTICLE LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATIONS" (You have to open it with the arrow).

This must contain the original article number in English. Doing so, the translations are linked and it is possible then to track original article change. (Launch pad -> The entire site -> expand all)

Also, on the public site, the user will be able to switch to another language on any article.

To start, the simplest way is to follow these clicks:

* TOP of the screen, 'Site edit'

* Find the English section and click on 'en' under the box icon

* Now, find the box 'All the articles published in this section' near the end of the page and click on ''1. What is GCompris'' to see how to translate it.

* Click on the black arrow in front of ''> ARTICLE LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATIONS''. Once the arrow is open, you must click on ''Write a new translation of this article'' which is near the end of the translation box (under your language).

* Here it's up to you to translate the English. Take care to change the links so that they point to your articles, not the English one.

* When done, click 'Submit'

= Publishing =

When you are confident with your translation, on the article page, select 'This article is:' 'Published online' and click modify. At this point, your locale section with the flag will appear online.

Until you publish it, your article won't appear on the public site. You don't need my agreement to publish article, anyway as I don't speak your language, I cannot double check.

= See your changes =

Very important, on the public site (when registered), there is a special refresh button at the bottom of the pages, you need to use it to see your changes.

= Title numbering =

Many title have a prefix number like '''5. Download'''. The number won't appear in the user site. It's only used to specify the order of the articles. Take care to keep the space after the dot or it doesn't work as expected, the number will appear in the user site.
